Do you guys remember that episode of Friends where Rachel decides to take herself out to lunch on her own? She ends up loving it and starts putting off plans with the gang to spend time with herself instead? Yeah, well, the other day, I kinda pulled a Rachel. Hahaha.
I didn’t turn anyone down or cancel plans but just decided before work to take myself out for lunch. I took my book, camera and notepad and set off to Epicure’s of Hyndland, one of the cutest cafe restaurants in the West End, for some relaxing, indulgent me time.
Over summer, I was on my own for the most part so I’m finding it a bigger transition than I thought to get back in to life with flatmates, friends all close by and the social aspects that come with university. Being surrounded by friends is so amazing of course, but it’s equally weird when I’ve been so used to one way of living and it’s a total flip to the other side! Don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with other people and would choose that over being on my own any day, but I also appreciate a bit of ‘me time’ and as I had so much of it over summer, it is a definite adjustment I’m having to make.
It was nice to set aside those couple of hours amid a busy few days and know I could just write blog post plans, eat good food and read my book before heading off to work. The food in Epicure’s is great and I’d had my eye on the bruschetta when I was last there so already knew what I wanted to order. My plan was to get cake to follow but sadly the service was pretty slow. Fair enough it was a busy Saturday but there were a lot of staff their and I had to ask to order because I’d been waiting 15 minutes or more. It was more disappointing than anything because, I mean, just look at those treats. They look so tempting. Mmm. Ah, well, I guess they saved me from a sugar and calorie over load.
Okay, who am I even kidding? I bought an ice cream on the walk to work after this. Double scoop waffle cone. It was worth the calories!!!
Anyhow, as I was saying, it has been a busy old week and I have so loved catching up with friends again. Hayley is finally back in Glasgow for good. We had a Wagamama date and got totally goofy over how excited we were to be able to see each other ALL THE TIME! If we were guys, it would totally be a bromance. My friend Elle moved in up the road too and was telling us all about her month interrailing around Europe. It sounds so incredible. We all met up for drinks too but I ended up heading home as the others went out. I’ve just not had much interest in the ‘Freshers’ side of university this year. I’m good at home catching up with friends over a cuppa and cake. Long bar queues and busy dance floors just don’t appeal to me this week, I’m afraid!
